Three Moves That Change the Room: Inquiry-Based Social Studies for Multilingual Learners

Multilingual learners belong in the full work of inquiry, asking the questions, reading the sources, and building the argument alongside everyone else. In this episode, hosts LaKethia White and Hannah Berkowitz start with a real challenge from Hannah’s 5th grade classroom.

Then WIDA Professional Learning Specialist Christina Nelson gets concrete about keeping the thinking high and the language barriers low, with three moves teachers can use right away: inviting students’ home languages into the work, asking questions that draw out more language, and grouping students with purpose.
